There are over 2 billion people in the world today who profess to be followers of the messiah. Yet, when we look around at the conditions of the people today, it’s very rare that you actually see someone living as the Messiah or his disciples did.
For instance, The Messiah kept the sabbath Day Holy (Luke 4:16) just as Elohim (God) commanded. But most people who claim to be followers of the Messiah (mainly christians) do not even acknowledge the sabbath day, let alone keep it holy. Instead they observe the Sun God’s (Baal’s) day as holy, which is Sunday. That’s strike one!
The Messiah also taught that you have to keep the commandments of Elohim (God) in order to receive eternal life (Matthew 19:16-17). But most of the people who claim to be followers of the messiah (mainly christians) teach that you don’t have to do anything to receive eternal life because the messiah (Jesus Christ) did it all when he died on the tree. That’s strike two!
Last but not least, The Messiah taught that if you endure in your faith till death, then you will be saved (Matthew 10:22). But the majority of people who claim to be followers of the Messiah (mainly christians) teach that once you accept Him into your heart, then you are saved forever, no matter what. That’s strike three!
There are so many other things that The Messiah and His disciples did, but these 3 are the most important ones and as you can see — the majority of people who claim to be followers of the messiah (mainly christians) do not follow him at all.
Well if they don’t follow the Messiah, then who are they following?
The Traditions of Men
We live in a world today where many people have replaced reading the bible with going to church. Instead of reading and studying the word of Elohim (God) to develop a foundation of their beliefs, people rather depend on their pastors for their spiritual growth. But without any understanding of the scriptures for yourself, you are left with no choice but to follow the teachings of your pastor, whether it be true or not.
As a result, many people who claim to be followers of the messiah are actually followers of their pastors. And since the majority (well over 90%) of pastors today are false prophets, the majority of believers are being taught lies about their faith and are headed down the path of destruction without even knowing it.
One might ask, “If God is real, then why would He allow us to believe a lie?” and the answer is simple:
“Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” – 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12
The reason why The Most High allows people to believe lies is because they don’t love the truth. And if you don’t love the truth, then you can’t possibly love the Messiah, because He is the truth (John 14:6). Therefore our Father allows these false prophets and teachers to deceive the people with lies who choose to follow their pastors, rather than the Messiah.
So if you are someone who attends church faithfully and considers yourself to be a follower of the Messiah, but doesn’t really study or have any understanding of the scriptures; then let me explain to you what a true follower of the Messiah is.
The Life of A Servant
Many people take the famous walk down to the alter of christian churches and so-called “give their lives to the Lord”, without ever quite understanding what that actually means. But if you are going to commit your life to something, then you need to first know what you’re getting yourself into so that you can see if you have what it takes to keep your commitment.
“For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?” – Luke 14:28
In order to be a follower of the Messiah, you must do what the Messiah did — give up your life and become a servant of the Kingdom. Just as He dedicated his life to serving us, we must dedicate our life to serving Him. But don’t take my word for it, let’s hear what the messiah has to say about it:
“ If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.” – Luke 14:26-27
In the verse above, the Messiah is letting us know that if we are not willing to forsake ALL that we love on this Earth for Him, then we cannot be His disciples. There are many pastors who try to twist this scripture around to mean something else, but if you take the time out to read the entire chapter of Luke 14 for yourself, you’ll see that it means exactly what it says.
This is also confirmed in the book of Matthew as well:
“Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.” – Matthew 10:34-39
So many people have been deceived into believing that the Messiah is this nice and soft hugs and kisses type of guy but He’s not. As he stated in the verses above, He did NOT come to bring peace on Earth, he came to bring division. He came to divide those of us who are actually following him from those of us who are not. He also goes on to say that the people who will be against us the most are our own family members.
Now I know you don’t get taught stuff like this in church, but this is the truth. When you are really following the Messiah — keeping the commandments, living set-apart from the world, and teaching the truth — you will become an enemy to almost everyone who is not, especially your family (I can attest to this in my own life).
But this is the cost that you must pay if you want to be a follower of the Messiah. If you are not willing to forsake all that you love and be hated by almost everyone for His name’s sake, then you cannot be his disciple. Point Blank Period.
Paul, Peter, James, John, Matthew, and the rest of the disciples (excluding Judas) taught this very same thing. They not only taught it, they lived it. That’s why Paul said “Follow me, as I follow Christ” in 1 Corinthians 11:1 because he had given up his life to become a servant of the Messiah (Galatians 1:10). And if you call yourself a follower of Him, then you must do the same.
With over 2 billion people in the world professing to be followers of the Messiah, I hope today’s article has blessed you with knowledge and understanding of what a true follower of the Messiah is, and the price you must pay to follow Him.
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” – John 8:32
