The Importance of the Sabbath

Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. [17] It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. – Exodus 31:16

Before reading this article, it’s important to know who you are. If you don’t know who you are then you won’t realize how the Word of The Most High applies to you and you won’t fully comprehend why the state of certain people (ie: the so-called Negros, etc) are in the shape that they are today because of the sins against our heavenly Father. One must research who the children of Israel are today in order to effectively interpret scripture. But to stay on topic, the Sabbath was in place way before the instructions were given to Yahuah’s people on the earth.

“…for that day is more holy and blessed than any jubilee day of the jubilees; on this we kept Sabbath in the heavens before it was made known to any flesh to keep Sabbath thereon on the earth. 32. And the Creator of all things blessed it, but he did not sanctify all peoples and nations to keep Sabbath thereon, but Israel alone.” – Jubilees 2:31-32

The Sabbath has always been the 7th day of the week; better known as “Saturday”, as ordained from The Most High Yah. From sundown evening of what we know as “Friday” to sundown evening “Saturday”, is the day that was made a perpetual covenant for Alahym’s people. For we know from the Book of Genesis, that a day began at evening and not how we perceive it to start here in America and around the globe. As you read the scripture at the very beginning, it let’s us know the Sabbath is to be kept through all generations FOREVER. But somehow we, the children of Israel, let man dictate what will be the “New” Sabbath instead of listening to The Most High. Throughout the bible and the apocrypha books, one will see how important it is for the children of The Most High to keep the Sabbath. The funny thing to me is that most who profess to be a Christian today will go hard for traditions of men instead of keeping the set apart day. They will give all kinds of reasons why they don’t follow the Word of The Most High and try to justify it by turning scriptures around to fit their stance. Sadly, these will be the same people we see in scripture where the Messiah, Yahusha says:

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye who practice lawlessness. – Matthew 7:21-23 New King James Version (NKJV)

This passage is very key! Notice the Messiah says that he that does the will of my Father. It’s the Father’s will that we obey him. If you want to worship The Most High, do it in obedience. The Most High commands us to keep the Sabbath and to observe it for ever. It’s the 4th commandment given to us to keep! But somehow, we’ve allowed ourselves to be hoodwinked into thinking “I can keep the Sabbath any day I want”. Or justify, I worship every day. Praise is due to The Most High daily but He designated a set apart day for His children to keep holy. Anyone professing to be a child of The Most High Yah should be keeping the set apart day as He ordained it. How do we keep the Sabbath set apart you ask; by not partaking in our own pleasures. We keep the Sabbath holy by not doing works of our flesh and causing others to work. We keep the Sabbath holy resting in The Most High, by keeping our minds stayed on Him the entire day, acknowledging who He is our lives, and that He and He alone, is priority.

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. – Isaiah 58:13-14King James Version (KJV)

People that claim they keep Sunday holy to the Most High, truly don’t. After their services they go out to eat or go home and cook, go to work afterwards, go shopping, go to a game or fun park or to sum it up; do their own pleasures but give The Most High, 2-3hours out of their day in a church service that doesn’t even bother to teach The Most High’s TRUTH. Yahusha, the Messiah says, many will come to him saying they’ve done things in His name but His response is, “Depart from me, ye that work iniquity”. Iniquity is sin! And the definition of sin is transgressing The Most High’s laws!

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. – 1 John 3:4King James Version (KJV)

If you are not keeping the Sabbath/Shabbat you are transgressing the law or in other words, are in sin. And now is the time to repent and get it right. The scripture at the beginning of this article states the Sabbath is a perpetual covenant, meaning everlasting, never ending covenant for the children of Israel. The Most High saw fit to give His chosen people a sign and that sign in keeping the Sabbath.

Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you. – Exodus 31:13

And he said unto us; Behold I will separate unto myself a people from among all the peoples, and these shall keep the Sabbath day, and I will sanctify them unto myself as my people, and will bless them; as I have sanctified the Sabbath day and do sanctify it unto myself, even so will I bless them, and they shall be my people and I will be their God. – Jubilees 2:20

The Most High is waking up a remnant of His people that will repent and turn back to Him and begin keeping his commands and ordinances again; including the Sabbath. There are many that argue against Yahuah and say that His laws are done away with to include the Sabbath. To those that argue this, I say to them, Is The Most High Yahuah a liar?

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? – Numbers 23:19

Yahuah clearly stated which of His covenants that would last forever. The mere fact that Yahuah wrote the command of the Sabbath with His own finger on the tablets given to Moses, should at least account for some significance of observing the Sabbath days. Even the Messiah and His Disciples kept the Sabbath and the Sabbath was continued to be kept after the ascension of Yahusha.

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. – Luke 4:16

And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment. – Luke 23:56

And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures. – Acts 17:2

So as you can see the Sabbath was still observed. But Yahusha did encounter the Pharisees that felt as though He was breaking the law by doing, what they deemed to be, unlawful things. Such as Yahusha healing on the Sabbath or Yahusha’s disciples plucking ears of corn to eat on the Sabbath.

At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat. – Matthew 12:1

But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day. – Matthew 12:2

And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. – Luke 6:7

Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it? – Luke 6:9

As you can see, the Pharisees weren’t anything to be played with when it came to the law. But what the Pharisees tended to do was to attach their own traditions to some of the laws of The Most High. What the Messiah came to show them was that, He is Lord over the Sabbath. That Sabbath was made for Man and not Man for the Sabbath. This is why it is important to be led by the set apart ruach (spirit); because it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.

If you are just waking up to the truth and are considering starting to keep the Sabbath, you have six days to prepare for this day. You should gather and prepare foods that you will eat so that you don’t have to cook on this day and you should make sure home is tidy up so you don’t have to operate in clutter.

Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings. – Leviticus 23:3

Begin with a prayer to The Most High and offer up praises and thanksgivings. Make a conscious decision to set your mind upon Him. Read and study the Word. Watch or listen to teachings from credible followers of The Most High. Listen to praise and worship songs to The Most High. If you have like believers in your town, assemble with one another. Rest your body at some point during the day. End the Sabbath with prayer and thanksgiving. If you have children, as we do, you will have some adjustment hiccups with them because they’re not used to reverencing The Most High all day because in church on Sundays, it’s just a couple of hours and then you do as you please. But you have to stress the importance of this observance to your children until they understand that it is to be kept throughout generations. Have bible study with them and ask them questions and let them ask questions. And also pray for them that they find delight in The Most High’s set apart day.

Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of Alahym, and the faith of Yahusha. – Revelation 14:12
